I believe that Libertarians should be setting the gold standard for transparency in government. Since this individual wasn't a Libertarian in the first place, to my knowledge, we shouldn't give him a free ride (IMO).
In fact, it underscores our need to do our homework to ensure that the people we work with are people of character so that we can claim our rightful role as the party who opposes corruption in fraud in government, rather than tactically defending it when it's "our guy" who is the con artist.

Brian

It's hard to argue with that. And yet -- when an official who just happens to be the most independent and libertarian-leaning legislator in the city is apparently set up and investigated where others probably would not be...

If the news story is accurate, it would mean that Mr.
Jew acquired his seat through misrepresentation --
fraud -- and that's something we should be willing to
quickly and decisively condemn.

Duh, what do you think I was saying?

Dear UCSF Mike;
The reason why the headlines in both local
newspapers did not have that
headline is because of how it would have looked:
Jew Charged With Perjury
Thimk about it for awhile. The really sad thing is
there still is the
FBI investigation and the real possiblities of
federal grand jury
indictments with warrants for and indictments of Ed
Jew at the federal
level.
The thing no one is saying just yet is Newsom can
remove Ed Jew from
office based on the City Charter for official
misconduct - even though
there hasn't been any convictions - just a lot of
local charges.

Awful news; thanks, Ron. I noticed in the print
edition on newsstands
on my way to work this morning how Jew's name keeps
itself out of the
headlines; the print headline said something like,
"Supervisor Charged
with Perjury," rather than "Jew Charged with
Perjury."

Dear Everyone;
Looks really bad for Ed Jew based on this late
breaking news item posted
on the SF Chronicle. The other shoe of course is the
FBI investigation
which is totally separate and could result in
federal indictments.

(06-12) 18:24 PDT SAN FRANCISCO -- San Francisco
District Attorney
Kamala Harris filed perjury charges and obtained an
arrest warrant for
Supervisor Ed Jew today, saying the freshman
lawmaker lied about his
residence when he became a candidate for District 4
supervisor last
year.
In a written statement, Harris said Jew lied under
oath and falsified
documents when he claimed in candidacy papers that
he lived in a house
owned by his father on 28th Avenue in the city's
Sunset neighborhood.
Jew was elected last November and took office in
December.
In all, the district attorney charged Jew with nine
felonies, including
four counts of perjury and one count of filing a
false document.
Harris' office began its investigation into Jew's
residency following
the May 18 FBI raid on Jew's City Hall office, the
Chinatown flower shop
he operates, the 28th Avenue home and another
residence used by the
supervisor in Burlingame.
Neighbors of a Sunset neighborhood house that was
searched by FBI agents
said the property had been vacant for several years.
Billing records for
the house at 2450 28th Ave. released by the San
Francisco Public
Utilities Commission show there has been little to
no water usage at the
property.
"Based on the District Attorney's investigaton, the
charges allege that
when Mr. Jew filed the papers necessary to run for
supervisor he did not
reside at 2450 28th Avenue or any other residence in
District 4," Harris
said in her statement.
She issued an arrest warrant for Jew, who was given
the opportunity to
surrender himself, according to the statement. Bail
is set at $135,000.
Jew could not immediately be reached for comment.
The FBI searches May 18 were carried out as part of
a federal corruption
investigation into Jew, who is suspected of
extorting
