(ORANGE COUNTY, CA.) -- California Superior Court Judge James P.
("Jim")
Gray (L-Newport Beach) soundly defeated former Libertarian party
state
chair Gail K. Lightfoot, winning the right to face incumbent Senator
Barbara Boxer and her GOP opponent, Bill Jones, in what will be one
of the
most closely watched U.S. Senate races in the nation.
Judge Gray led Lightfoot in balloting throughout the evening,
finishing
with a 14-point victory margin over the longtime party activist and
leader.
With 93% of precincts reporting, Judge Gray received 11,351 votes
(57.2%)
versus 8,510 votes (42.8%) for Lightfoot.
Judge Gray ran particularly strong in his home of Orange County,
where he
received 71% of the vote.
Other strong performances came in Imperial (64%), Los Angeles and
San
Mateo (61%), Santa Clara, Ventura and Riverside (59%), San Diego and
Contra Costa (58%), Fresno and San Francisco (57%) counties.The final vote tally for Judge Gray -- and all candidates in
California's
