Hi Everyone,

I want to thank everyone for sharing their opinions
about the prop. 54 initiative. They were very
interesting and I enjoyed reading your opinions. I
want to eventually say a few things in regards to
them. I also attended Walter Block's talk in San
Francisco, which gave me an insight on another matter
I want to share. I'm hopeful I will do this before the
weekend is over, when I have a chance to catch up on
my e-mails.

Is anyone going to the Political Chat tonight? Does
anyone realize that the Political Chats haven't been
cancelled? Does anyone realize that just because I'm
not going to be there, that they can still show up,
gather, and discuss a topic of the week regarding
Libertarian solutions?

If anyone is going to the chat tonight, I would
suggest continuing the online discussion of prop. 54.
It's a very interesting topic and seems to involve
people of all ages. Every professor I've met so far
this semester is either wearing a "no on prop. 54"
button or sharing their viewpoints against it. College
students, age 18-25 are toting around backpacks with
"no on 54" buttons and writing articles against it.
Who would think that in this day and age that it would
be trendy and cool among young people and college
students to support big government collecting racial
data on people. When I was in college, it was the norm
to be suspicious of government agencies collecting
data on people. Amazing!

Anyway, I picture two things happening tonight; either
no one will show up again to the chats, or many people
will show up with their friends and aquaintances all
sitting around sharing differing viewpoints on this
issue. I like to be optimistic.

Dave Barker.

Hi everyone,

I am re-sending this with the correct subject in the
subject line. Sorry!

IT'S NEW HAMPSHIRE!

Thanks for posting this, Michael.

So here's a heads-up for any San Francisco tied-down Libertarians: I'm
outta here. Not immediately; I'm going to go file for the State Assembly
race, but within the next couple of years, I'm off to New Hampsha.

Dear Everyone;

Here is some data on New Hampshire from the NH State data bank:

Dear Everyone;

Ooops! Hold those thoughts on New Hamsphire unless you are really prepared for some nifty weather!!! See the partial story below from New Hampshire Climotologists!!!

Ron Getty
SF Libertrian ( Or is that NH Libertarian?)

As a result of New England's position relative to the polar front, its continental climate type, its coastal orientation, and the mountainous topography, the regions weather is notorious. It is known for its diversity over short distances and changability in a matter of minutes. New England has recorded temperatures up to 107 o F and down to -50o F (Ludlum, 1976). The high is hotter than the all-time high temperatures ever recorded in Miami, Florida or Atlanta, Georgia. The low is colder than the record low temperature in Anchorage, Alaska or International Falls, Minnesota - which is commonly the coldest location in the conterminous United States. The region also has rainstorms that rival those in the southeastern United States. As a result, the splendors of New England weather and its bountiful variety were noted by many authors ranging from Robert Frost to Mark Twain. Twain captured the richness of New England weather in his speech at the New England Societys seventy-first
annual dinner in New York:

"Now as to the size of the weather in New England - lengthways, I mean. It is utterly disproportionate to the size of that little country. Half the time, when it is packed as full as it can stick, you will see New England weather sticking out beyond the edges and projecting around hundreds and hundreds of miles over the neighboring States. She cant hold a tenth part of her weather"
(Twain, 1935, p. 1110).

Many locations in the United States have the saying " if you dont like the weather, wait a minute," but nowhere is this more true than in New England. Yet despite the richness of the weather here, and the abundance of severe weather types, little research has concentrated on understanding the dynamic climate of the region.

Is anyone going to Sheesh Mahal for a political chat tonight?

I'll go if someone else will go also.

The last mailing to the membership was a summer 2003 calendar that announced upcoming events, including the chats. Now that summer is over, I don't think the LPSF is obligated to have someone at Sheesh Mahal every Wednesday, but it would be nice if at least two of us would go this evening.

Kelly

I'm afraid I'll be busy releasing some code changes to our customers and
babysitting the servers tonight (I was up until 4am last time). But I agree
that we should continue the chats and start coming up with other locations.
Who is willing to scout the area around Powell & Montgomery BART stations for
good meeting places? I know that's my neighborhood, and I should do it, but
I'm having to cover the jobs of two people who recently quit my company, and I
just don't have the time.

To cold for me. Hawaii would have been my choice.

It will be really interesting to see how this turns out. Perhaps those of us living elsewhere can eventually live and vote (on paper) in NH(?)

-- Steve

I'll go. I'd suggest discussing Walter Block's talk.

-- Steve

Steve,

I'm glad you're going. I'll try to be there by 7 p.m., but it might be a few minutes after.

Any political subject is fine with me.

Kelly

I'm from Buffalo, New York. Also, I, like many people
from New England, find the weather in San Francsico
very cold.
