It's good to know they're trying to base marijuana regulation on a model that makes sense!

An unwittingly precious quote from San Francisco Planning Commission president Dwight Alexander at today's hearing on whether the Green Door (not to be confused with the now-closed Green Cross) cannabis dispensary can stay open and under what conditions, speaking in favor of prohibiting patients from smoking on the premises:

"There are places where people are allowed to buy alcohol but not drink it on the premises, and there are places where people are allowed to drink on the premises but not leave with it."

  Uh, please remind us again -- what is the purpose of these laws, exactly?
