Hello everyone,
We hope you can join us next Tuesday for the annual Baxter Liberty Initiative Lecture. The Baxter Liberty Initiative lecture is part of a program in UC Berkeley's Department of Political Science, established by Frank Baxter '61, which features intellectual leaders whose expertise and scholarship focus on the ideal of freedom in political and economic life.
This year's featured lecturer is Professor Randy Barnett <http://www.randybarnett.com/biography/>. Professor Barnett teaches at Georgetown Law School, where he serves as the Carmack Waterhouse Professor of Legal Theory and Director of the Georgetown Center for the Constitution. You can get a brief preview of his lecture in this week's Washington Post: Is the Constitution Libertarian? <https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/volokh-conspiracy/wp/2015/09/29/is-the-constitution-libertarian-my-baxter-liberty-initiative-lecture-on-106/>
The event will also feature Professor Fred Smith, Jr. <https://www.law.berkeley.edu/php-programs/faculty/facultyProfile.php?facID=14255>, who will be giving the response to Professor Barnett's lecture. Professor Smith serves as Assistant Professor of Law at Berkeley Law School and is a scholar of the federal judiciary and constitutional law.
The public lecture will be held on Tuesday, October 6th from 4:15 pm to 6:00 pm in the Banatao Auditorium of Sutardja Dai Hall. A free reception with light refreshments and hors d’oeuvres in the Kvamme Atrium will follow from 6:00 to 7:00 pm.
