Help me get appointed to Convention Oversight Committee? / LNC Message Summaries

LP Chair Geoff Neale announced to the LNC a little while back that he is going to be making appointments to the Convention Oversight Committee, and solicited volunteers to serve on this committee. I sent him the following on May 28 letting him know that I am interested:

I wanted to let you know that I am volunteering to serve on the Convention Oversight Committee, if you weren't already aware of my interest in doing so. After the Bylaws and Platform committees, it is the committee on which I am most interested in serving.

Some possibly relevant qualifications I possess to serve on this committee are as follows:

• I have attended every national convention, and every California state LP convention save one, since I became involved in the Libertarian Party around 1992
• I helped organize our 2007 California state LP convention under the leadership of Terry Floyd
• In keeping with the wishes of a majority of delegates who weighed in on the issue at our recent convention, I am strongly against charging floor fees to delegates who simply wish to take part in our convention business sessions
• As a champion of sunshine and openness, I will strive to ensure that information gained during the course of convention planning during this committee's term is preserved for posterity, so that future LP convention planners can benefit from our accumulated experience
• I am a creative thinker who will bring fresh ideas to the committee and advocate for a wider range of convention possibilities, including those articulated in the LP Convention Manifesto document I've authored*

When I followed up a while after that, he thanked me for volunteering, and said that he is waiting and hoping there will be a surplus of volunteers, but was non-committal as far as whether or not he would be interested in appointing me.

I believe that our conventions are crucial in determining the culture, direction, etc., of our party, and would like the opportunity to be on this committee in order to influence the type of gatherings that we hold. So if anyone here is willing to lobby Geoff (chair@...) in support of appointing me to this position, I'd appreciate it. Please copy me on any such messages you send unless you don't wish to for some reason.

Right now, non-LNC members are unfortunately heavily restricted from serving on most LNC committees (see LNC Policy Manual, page 15 - https://www.lp.org/files/LNC%20Policy%20Manual-Adopted%202012-05-02.pdf ). However if there are any committees that YOU are interested in serving on, please let me know, even if it's a committee on which non-LNC members are not currently allowed to serve. The more people who express interest in serving but are considered ineligible to do so, the greater the impetus to change the rules to allow more participation from ordinary party members.

Love & Liberty,
                                ((( starchild )))
At-Large Representative, Libertarian National Committee

P.S. - I also encourage everyone to subscribe to the the LNCDiscussPublic@yahoogroups.com if you haven't already done so, where I have been posting messages forwarded from the Libertarian National Committee list to which ordinary LP members are not allowed to subscribe. I believe that the visible show of support for openness and transparency represented by a large number of subscribers to LNCDiscussPublic may help influence LNC members' views and practices on the topic.

Furthermore, if you want to be "in the loop" and able to effectively help in the fight to keep the Libertarian Party radical, bottom-up, and in accord with the Five Key Values, it's good to try to keep up with what the LNC is doing.

If you don't have time to read all the messages, George Phillies has started providing a very helpful service by listing the author of each message and summarizing its contents, at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/lpusmisc/ . I've copied below the summaries that he has posted so far. If anyone is interested in going through and cleaning up typos and expanding on or correcting some of the entries where it seems appropriate, this could be a valuable service to party members trying to get a handle on the correspondence or looking back later for some important detail. The message numbers refer to messages on the LNCDiscussPublic list, and encompass traffic on the LNC list from May 18 through June 7.
