Dear freedom lovers,
Meant to send this earlier – there is a court hearing on the so-called “Top Two” law in California being heard tomorrow morning in San Francisco:
Federal Building, 450 Golden Gate Avenue, San Francisco, CA 94102
19th floor courtroom of judge Maxine Chesney
This is about the law that allows only two candidates – usually a Democrat and a Republican, but sometimes even 2 Democrats or 2 Republicans! – to appear on general election ballots for partisan offices like state assembly, state senate, and governor in California. It has severely hurt Libertarians and other independent parties and the voters who support us, denying them the chance to vote for their preferred candidates in November. Since it was imposed in 2014, the number of such candidates listed in the elections where most voters are paying attention has plummeted.
It can often be helpful to have spectators in the courtroom for hearings like this, to show the judges that the public (and us specifically!) are paying attention and care how they rule. So please attend if you can. While the main thrust of the law is apparently not under consideration at this time, there are a couple narrower points relating to it that are. You can read more information here:
Consider coming if you can, and don’t forget the mandatory (unconstitutional) metal detectors/security to get into the federal building.
