Has this list become "GOP-SF-discuss?"

Hello, folks:

I'm sorry to seem excessively bitchy (I know, you'd *never* expect that from me), but I'm starting to get a bit existentialist here.

Other than the discussion over the platform committee shenanigans, it strikes me that most of the other posts the past few weeks have been Republican Party posts.

Specific examples of this include:

1) Constant campaign postings for Republican candidates;

2) A call for Libertarian Party members to attend an official Republican Party meeting to support a Republican candidate;

3) Posts calling for LP support for Republican Party initiatives (including distribution of GOP propaganda on GOP-allied radio networks);

4) Posts inviting LP members to Republican Party fundraising events.

Now, I know that several Libertarians have opted to jump ship and vote for a Republican in the primaries (and possibly the upcoming elections). We've debated the pros and cons of this, and there's certainly disagreement.

I also know that a lot of Libertarians have decided to support Democrats in the primaries (and possibly the upcoming elections), and I've debated the pros and cons of that too -- and there's certainly disagreement.

What I also know is that if the Libertarian voters who are supporting Democrats posted DNC fundraiser event news, calls for support for the Richardson campaign, etc. with the multi-daily-post frequency that I'm seeing for various GOP candidates on this list, they'd quickly be dispatched.

Is anyone still interested in discussing the *Libertarian* Party? Or is that whole thing passé in our Brave New GOP World?

Cheers,

Brian

The only posts for any candidate that isn't a LP
member is Ron Paul. I think we should allow postings
for any political event in the area as we are a
political party, I don't believe we should only be
willing to attend LP only events. All of these events
lead to networking, networking leads to new friends
and allies on issues (i.e. gay issues, gun issues that
appear on ballots as proposals) and possibly will lead
to new prospects and donors for the LP.

If you don't understand how networking with other
political folks in other parties works I suggest you
attend an upcoming training on campaigns because you
can't build a political party if you have 10 LPers in
the room circle jerking to their favorite Milton
Friedman quotes......

For the following 5 days we need to send a message

can
be done by
posting "Press Releases" to all Freedom Groups for

their

Internet Radio stations like Republic Broadcasting,
We the People
Radio
Network, Genesis, and many others.

Live Interviews are available and
sought after.

Pass this to all your contacts both individually and

through the various
groups.

JOIN RON PAUL FRIENDS USA ...The time has
come!

The Sole purpose of Ron Paul Friends USA is to
ensure without a
doubt
that Ron Paul will # 1 - Win the Republican
Nomination and # 2 -
Win
the Presidential Election. These goals will be
accomplished through

Ron Paul supporters getting directly involved in the
Politics of
the
election process at the Grassroots level beginning
at your
local
Precincts.

There are three goals to accomplish at the Precinct
level:

1) Get the people registered to vote.
2) Get the majority to
vote for Ron Paul.
3) Get the majority of Delegates elected that are
Ron Paul
Supporters.

Accomplishing the above three tasks in every
precinct across
the
country will ensure that Ron Paul will be our next
President! Yes
you
read that right. He WILL BE our next President if
these goals
are
accomplished. Period! End of discussion. We are not
about trying
to
get the word out and "hoping" that he will be
elected. We're going to

make sure He is elected.

Ron Paul Friends USA was designed to make
this happen. We are building
this from the bottom up and the top down and
anything in between.
If you want Ron Paul as your next President then we
need
you to make
a commitment by volunteering at some level to take
charge of an
area
whether it be a precinct leader, area leader, county
leader, or
just
a block walker hanging "door hangers".

Please sign up at: http:

You
will need your Precinct # off your voter
registration card or
search for your
precinct under your Secretary of State's office
website.
Get involved NOW!
We only have a few months to get organized in every
precinct before the first

TJ,

Actually Ron Paul technically *is* an LP life member, even though he is currently running for office as a Republican. But I generally agree with your comments here as far as they go. I will add one additional point, which is that to me the important question is not whether a candidate is Libertarian or not, but whether his/her views and positions are *libertarian*.

I think Brian already knows that I believe the LP is on the whole far more libertarian than either the Democrat or Republican parties, and also that I believe the LP has (in the words of Grassroots Libertarians Caucus Key Value #2), "become too conservative in style as well as substance." Anyone including Brian who agrees with this statement and the rest of the Five Key Values (see below) is invited to join the Grassroots Libertarians Caucus.

Love & Liberty,
        <<< starchild >>>

5 Key Values

(1) BOTTOM-UP, NOT TOP-DOWN. We see a party that too often takes after the establishment parties and corporations rather than manifesting itself as a grassroots organization with revolutionary goals. We seek a decentralized Libertarian Party run by its members and activists rather than by a centralized clique of corporate-oriented professionals.

(2) POLITICALLY BALANCED. We see a party that has become too conservative in both style and substance. We seek to restore a balanced approach to Libertarian Party policy-making and outreach that strives to appeal to the political left as much as to the political right and emphasizes personal liberty no less than economic liberty.

(3) FUN, BOLD, AND FREE-SPIRITED. We see a party that has become too staid, timid, boring, and unimaginative. We seek a culture within the Libertarian Party that is bolder, more irreverent, more free-spirited, more creative, and more fun-loving.

(4) RADICAL AND PROUD. We see a party that has become too ashamed of its own ideals, a place where "idealist" is too often treated as a dirty word. We seek a party in which Libertarians proudly share a sense of solidarity as radical freedom fighters in a larger movement committed to the vision of worldwide individual liberty expressed in the Preamble and Statement of Principles of the Libertarian Party's national platform.

(5) YOUTH-FOCUSED. We see a party that is largely failing to connect with young people. We seek a Libertarian Party whose style, structure, culture, and materials speak first and foremost to the younger generations who hold the future in their hands.
