Gun Ban press release

I'm in favor of a statement. We can talk about the Pink Pistols, and
how armed gays don't get bashed. We can talk about not wanting to
disarm San Franciscans so that only police or people in the "red
states" own guns. We can talk about how the police are seen in some
neighborhoods as an occupying force, their tendency to engage in
unnecessary shootings that go unprosecuted; their slow response times
and failure to prioritize going after real crime. We can talk about how
Mao said that political power grows out of the barrel of a gun, and ask
whether San Franciscans want people in red states to be armed to defend
themselves while people in blue states have to rely on government for
their protection. I don't think many people will confuse these
arguments as coming from Republicans or the NRA.

Thank you to Richard Newell for this press release. I would love to
hear from LPSF Activists on what role, if any, the LPSF as a group
may have in stating its opposition to this gun ban (or perhaps there
is no consensus against this ban, thus no opinion to be stated as a
group). I am not suggesting joining the legal challenges that Mike
Denny and his second amendment groups are spearheading; I am simply
suggesting a statement.

Good points, Starchild. What about formulating a press release during
our 15 minutes of activity at the next meeting?
