Great News. *Glory*, *Hallelujah* Glorious news.
Sheldon Silver has finally been arrested.
Sheldon Silver has long represented what is corrupt and evil about New York
Politics. Sheldon Silver is probably not the worst one nor is he the most
evil one (although we cannot think off hand of anybody more corrupt or evil
than he is but there must be somebody) but we can hope that this will be
the first arrest of many. Sheldon Silver has long been one of the notorious
"three men in a room" who control the legislative process in New York
State. New York voters have long believed that when they voted for state
senate or state assembly they were electing their representative. Not true.
The candidates and the entire state legislature are all controlled by three
men and one of those three men for the last more than twenty years has been
Sheldon Silver. No major construction or development can take place in New
York City or anywhere in New York State without the approval of Sheldon
Silver. Sheldon Silver has been by far the longest serving of those three
men. Just as one example, Sheldon Silver has for the last twenty years
blocked construction of the Second Avenue Subway because it will run near
his house and bring in homeless people to his neighborhood.
