Here's a timely warning about the California government's latest extortion schemes targeting drivers in the state, for those who drive or have friends/family that do (i.e. virtually everyone). And not only drivers -- they are also now starting to separately ticket passengers for not wearing seatbelts!
Some of these penalties are getting so onerous, I think that a ballot initiative in this area (for instance cutting all vehicle-related fines including for bicycles, pedestrians, etc., in half and limiting any future increases to the rate of inflation) could be quite popular. The first time penalty for driving in a carpool lane is apparently now over $1000! See details below...
Given, however, that PR and marketing are bad things, we're going to have trouble getting the word out -- let alone taking steps to repeal these laws.
'Tis a shame!
Cheers,
Bri!

Spreading the message of liberty and teaching and informing people are not bad things. My issue with "marketing" and "PR" are that they smack of a whole corporate approach that is very scientific and impersonal about seeking to manipulate peoples' opinions. Such practices cause many people to feel alienated and manipulated. I know, because I am one of them. We don't want to be responsible for making people feel this way, especially if they develop those feelings toward libertarianism or the LP.
Sorry, I guess I was just under the impression that we're the party of capitalism, including creative and effective communications about liberty. My bad!
Cheers,
Brian

Numerous people, including the person who sent me the original message, have confirmed this is a hoax. Sorry for the false alarm. Here is the (presumably) correct info, courtesy of the original sender whose message follows, and the Internet Legend debunking site Snopes.com:
