Fwd: [sfbarentersfed] What's next for SF YIMBY? [Happy hour Wednesday Nov. 20, 6-8pm, Casements, 2351 Mission Street]

A YIMBY (Yes-In-My-Backyard, folks who want to build more housing) post-election happy hour is happening this coming Wednesday in the Mission that I may check out. I went to another YIMBY post-election bar meetup organized by the Housing Action Coalition a few days ago. They had Alex Clemens, a hard-bitten political consultant (https://alexclemens.com/) as a guest speaker – he spoke about the Board of Supervisors results and such. Said things like how, if you want to be on the winning side, it’s a good time to be a moderate (not a progressive).

During the Q&A, I mentioned the libertarian/authoritarian axis (not left vs. right) being the real underlying political paradigm, and asked him what he thought the prospects were for SF becoming more libertarian on economic issues like housing, without going authoritarian on civil liberties. He didn’t offer an opinion on this, begging non-expertise, after making what I first thought was complimentary, but now think may have been a bit of a back-handed compliment, perhaps subtly telling others in the room that it’s politically unwise to engage with us. “Never argue with a libertarian, you will lose,” he said. “Even if you win, you will lose.” I do have to give him credit for using humor in his communication. :-)

If you want to go to Casements this Wednesday to mingle and spread the freedom message, let me know.

Love & Liberty,
