FW: Prop 75 debating points

So I was flipping thru the channels this evening and
suddenly the mug of Starchild filled my screen with an
important message! This was one of the League of Women
Voter's series of ballot measure debates on Ch. 29
where Starchild gives his opposition to Prop. A. I
rarely watch TV so I wasn't even aware these were on.

Anyway, I thought Starchild won the debate hands down.
(just don't call him Mr. Starchild :). The other guy
was a bureaucratic tool that didn't say much beyond
'do it for the children'. I especially liked
Starchild's closing statements where he mentioned he
had been a student of City College. I think that lent
quite a bit of credibility. Also his comments
concerning the dissenting trustees raised questions
that went unopposed.

If you get a chance, I think the next showing is on
Thursday if you can catch it, or Tivo it. I'm
surprised no one has mentioned this on the list here,
unless I missed it. Here's the schedule for the rest
of the week.

Thank you to David Rhodes for this news. We are lucky to have
Starchild on our side.

David,

Thank you! I never heard when they were scheduled to run either, so I appreciate the heads-up. Yeah, it looks like it's scheduled to show again on Thursday along with the Proposition D debate on Thursday from 1:30 to 2:00 p.m. I'm glad you think I came across well -- I only felt like I did OK at the time. It's tough to be up against someone who has so much more information on the topic than you do, in this case the opponent being Philip Day, the chancellor of City College.

If I recall correctly, the chancellor actually did respond about the dissenting trustees (one of them apparently supports the bond measure now), but that response may have been edited out, because the moderator inadvertently (?) strayed from the format during the debate by twice allowing my opponent to respond to my comments when we were supposed to proceed to the next question. I talked about this afterward with a couple of the LWV officials, and they said they'd have to go back in and edit the tape or even have it reshot if it couldn't be fixed. I was pretty amazed at the missteps, after the efforts they'd gone through to notify the debaters of the format in advance (I even had to sign and fax back a statement saying I'd read and agreed to it). However it may have worked out to my advantage in the end if Day appears in the broadcast to be letting something important go unchallenged.

Yours in liberty,

P.S. - According to the schedule I downloaded from the link you posted, the debate on Propositions F (firefighters featherbedding) and H (firearms ban) are also on in the 5:00 to 5:30 p.m. timeslot today. I caught part of the Prop. F debate during the taping, and was sorry to see that I thought the anti side did not come out looking as good as the proponents, but I haven't seen the debate on Prop. H.
