Here's an interesting event coming up in San Francisco. I have seen a
demo of the Open Voting Consortium's system, and it beats Diebold and
Sequoia hands down, but because it is an open source project without a
large corporation behind it, most local election boards are politely
ignoring them. Alameda County seems committed to spending millions more
on upgraded Diebold voting machines, rather than using a cheaper
off-the-shelf diskless PC-based solution like the OVC project. I hope
San Francisco will be more open to this alternative.
