Today is Election Day – don’t forget to vote if you haven’t already done so. It does make a difference. Every vote cast by a registered Libertarian increases the party’s visibility and clout, and local measures occasionally are decided by very narrow margins. There are bad measures on this ballot to vote against like Proposition A (another tax increase in the form of a bond measure being sold as for earthquake safety), and good measures like Proposition C (which would somewhat reduce the tax burden on local small businesses). There’s also the statewide governor’s race in which you can again help the party by voting Libertarian, and others.
If you live in State Assembly District 17 (roughly the eastern half of San Francisco), you can write in yours truly (Starchild) for that office, as a qualified write-in candidate for that office, since only the incumbent Matt Haney filed as a regular candidate and appears on the ballot. If I get more write-in votes than the other two qualified write-in candidates seeking the office (a Republican and a Peace and Freedom Party candidate), I’ll appear on the November ballot as a candidate for the office and get a statement in the voter handbook, along with probably some media coverage and opportunities to talk to local groups. The number of write-in votes are typically very small, given the last-minute nature of these filings and general lack of attention paid to them, so your single vote could literally make the difference.
