Deaf to the Will of the People

By Jocelynn Smith, Sr. Managing Editor
It’s tough even for cats in this country.

During the June 14 meeting of the White Settlement City Council in North Texas, council members voted 2-1 to evict Browser, a striped cat who has called the White Settlement Public Library home for the past six years.

Council members Elzie Clements and Paul Moore voted to evict Browser. Clements said: “City Hall and city businesses are no place for animals.”

While Clements has a point, it is also worth noting that Browser was hired to do a job for the city — he was brought in to help the library with its rodent problem. Over time, Browser became the mascot of the library, bringing more people through its doors and with increasing frequency, which is great for keeping citizens happy and building a sense of community.

And the city council shouldn’t worry that Browser was costing taxpayers, because library employees generously paid for the cat’s needs.

We are faced with one careless vote — against the will of the people who attended the meeting to support Browser — that has cost the city of White Settlement, Texas, more than it has helped. The mayor has said that the library will likely have to hire an exterminator to take care of its rodent problem, which will not only cost the city far more than Browser ever did, but risks harmful chemicals getting on books handled by children. In addition, the sense of community the city council should be supporting and nourishing has been damaged.

Yes, I know I’m in a huff about a cat, but this is just another example of government — big or small — ignoring what is best for the people they are supposed to be serving while following their own agenda.

Browser currently has 30 days to find a new home, but the mayor is hoping to bring the issue up before the city council at the July 12 meeting. Hopefully, the city council members will take this opportunity to listen to the will of the people.

Brexit is the result of the British elite misleading voters and promising benefits that never came. Much like Americans heading into this year’s presidential election, Britons who voted for Brexit represent a sizable group of ordinary people with valid concerns who’ve been neglected and misled by elites for so long that they’re seizing their only chance to register their rage at the established order. But those concerns have been buried under an avalanche of prejudice and mischaracterization. Can we Americans learn anything from this … or is it too late? Read more.

Congress Did What? [SHOCKING]
In an unprecedented move, Washington fast-tracked a radical new technology bill to ensure that a new technology breakthrough breaks through… It's the closest thing I've ever seen to government-approved 8,000% growth! To continue reading, click here…

Beware the Fool’s Gold Rush
Counterfeiting has been around for centuries. It’s a big business. But recent technological advances have made telling fake gold bars and coins increasingly difficult. In fact, the recent discovery in March of counterfeit gold bars bearing the PAMP Suisse mark — a highly respected private gold mint — set the industry on its heels. One thing’s for certain — where you buy has become more important than what you buy. Click here to read more.

One Asset Brexit Can’t Touch
We are at a stage in economic history where the tides of change weigh heavily against us. Bond yields are so artificially low that they will, at some point, push higher, eventually crushing bond investors. The stock market, meanwhile, is so drunk on cheap money that it doesn’t realize that it’s about to black out. That is exactly why you need to be looking at exposure to alternative assets of various kinds. Alternative assets often get a bad rap, but there is one asset that continues to appreciate in value that even Brexit won’t touch … Read more.

How Romney, Bush and Fiorina Make Extra Income
A financial analyst is exposing a closely guarded income stream that has been off-limits to everyday investors for 90 years. Mitt Romney, Jeb Bush and Carly Fiorina have tapped this “privileged” income stream to collect as much as $290,000 in a single month. Now it’s your turn, details here…

Another Market Meltdown?
Right now, people are more worried about a stock market crash than seeing it as an opportunity to grow their wealth. Traders are in a panic about Brexit, and many feel a crash is imminent. That, of course, is possible at any time. We saw it in 2008, and we’ve seen mini-crashes with regularity in 2011, 2012, 2015 and twice already in 2016. Before jumping into an investment, you want to be aware of the risks of a crash … and this early crash warning indicator can help you do just that. Read more.
