Examples of government corruption and crony capitalism are legion, but here is an especially eggregious and transparent one. Details are in the attached a copy of the complaint filed in the case of Schneider vs. County of Sacramento et al.
Jay Schneider has endured scores of raids by van loads of armed officers looking for some violation that would justify shutting down the aggregate plant on his ranch. Despite the fact that they have never found anything, government thugs have barricaded the gates to the ranch, turned back truckers who came to purchase aggregate, seized invoices, weigh slips, job orders, phone books, computers and more - done everything they could think of to make it impossible for him to fill orders, take orders, contact customers, etc. At one raid coordinated by the district attorney, their attorney was threated with arrest if he didn't leave the ranch. When the attorney told them he was counsel for the owner and entitled to be present and observe the search, the thugs told the attorney that if he stepped off the truck they would handcuff him and he would be taken downtown in the back of a cruiser and booked for interference with an officer.
If it weren't for the costumes they wear we would call these thugs gangsters!
The complaint details how the true motivation behind the thuggery is politicians pandering to competitors who want to drive Scheider out of business because is expenses are so low that he can sell for less. Like I said, corruption/crony capitalism at work in our backyard.
After you read the complaint, consider this: Darrell Steinberg, President Pro Tem of the Senate (who just pushed through a change to CEQA to exempt his beloved new Sacramento Kings arena and shoved a $10M appropriation for a Jewish holocaust museum into the delta water bill) wants his buddy Roger Dickenson to replace him.
