checkpoints in DC were criticized by civil libertarians

Eric,

The courts have ruled that police are not responsible for protecting people or preventing crime. More checkpoints would not have prevented this girl from getting shot. And two wrongs don't make a right -- or do they, in your opinion? How many civil liberties do you think it is OK for government to violate with this rationale? If young black males are disproportionately committing violent crimes, does it become justified for government to engage in racial profiling, ageist discrimination, and violations of their civil liberties in order to "help prevent crime?" I hope you see where this kind of thing can lead.

Love & Liberty,
