Aubrey:
It has occurred to me after the Thursday nite meeting that maybe we need some
business cards to hand out to people. It would only say something like
Libertarian Party of San Francisco
The Party of Personal Freedom and Limited Government
and give our email address and website.
As a side note I saw an article in The Examiner on Friday that Scott Wiener is
mulling over a parcel tax for tree maintenance. I got on his website and shot
off a response. I made several points
1. A parcel is the worst kind of tax because (1) it is a fixed payment without
regard to payers' ability or desire to pay and (2) it is a compulsory payment
without regard to the quality or quantity of output.
(1) means that I (a parcel owner) will have less money to spend on things that I
need and want. I have my list of charities I contribute to and I don't need
Scott Wiener to dictate how much and what I should spend compassion money on.
(2) since that payment is mandatory the quality and quantity of output will
decline over time and there is no reason for the recipients to offer good
service at a reasonable price.
2. The demand for government services is infinite. No matter what the tax level
is, it is still a finite number. There will always be unmet needs and wants no
matter how high or how many times we raise taxes. The people who are downstream
of the taxpayers will always want more. They have to learn to live within their
revenues.
I intend to be at the meeting Monday nite.
