Time and Place:

Wednesday, November 1st, 2006

4pm

1007 Market Street (upstairs)

Luggage Store (art gallery)

a debate

For U.S. Congresional
Representative

from California's 8th
Congressional District

Representing: The City of San
Francisco

Participants:

Green Party: Krissy Keefer

Republican Party: Mike DeNunzio

Libertarian Party: Phillip Berg

Democratic Party: Chickened out

  In fairness, it should be
noted that the
Democratic candidate for this
seat (Nancy
Pelosi) can be seen across the
street at the
Warfield Theatre at 6pm. Her
appearance
with Bill Clinton is, however,
invitation
only. While it is billed as
a 'back to the
60's' theme, Nancy is charging
just a little
over a thousand dollars a ticket
to attend.
Now, how many 60's San Francisco
can afford
a thousand dollar ticket?

   The Luggage Store debate
is free to the
public and has 3 of the 4
candidates for the
office. Pelosi will require
a bribe of over a
thousand dollars minimum, just
to stand in the
same theatre as her. Who
really believes in
democracy?

Get ready to really party! The Greens
have taken up Michael Edelsteinds idea.
We are ging to have a mick funeral for
america agter the debate. Does anyone
have the statue of liberty. We can wrap
her in black and cary her on hour headas
crying. Bring funereal garb and show up.
Showing up is ninety percent of life. We
need black sheets, the staue if liberty
visors, Ms Liberty, and does anyone have
a scythe or sickle, how bout it you east
bay hayseesa.Please repost on other
sites. Media will ;be accross the street
for Clinton Pelosi dinner.--- In lpsf-

No excuse for the violence, but maybe if
people were having a good time and the
cops were in force protecting the crowd,
and gun violence was not entrenched in
culture because of the drug war, this
would have worked differently.

The debate went off very well. I am sorry
so few of you made. My thanks to Steve
DeKorte for doing a terrific job as one
of the moderators. Starchild offered
support from the cheap seats.

The debate will be broadcast on KPFA on
Saturday morning at 11. Who can record
from radio.

funded and doing a very large nationwide
advertising push. I think you will be
proud of my answers and I suspect this
will get a lot of exposure not just here
buut nationwide.

Derek,

I think you're confusing cause and effect. The heavy police presence was well planned in advance. If anything, I think the widespread expectations of violence fanned and embraced by city officials contributed to the tense atmosphere evident in the shootings. Treat people like criminals, and more of them will tend to act the part.

Love & liberty,

Starchild:

I couldn't disagree more. Who knows how much anarchy there would have
been that night without the police presence?

I think there may be something to this. I was there and noticed another problem with the police presence - they put barricades on either side of the street causing everyone to be crammed into the middle and unable to move which left no room for performances. This created a really unpleasant situation and the group of folks I was with all agreed that it wasn't any fun and we should just leave. This wasn't the case the other two times I went - five years or so ago. Also, the demographics of the crowd seemed different from what I remember - more like a Mission crowd than a Castro crowd.
