Banned from SFist!

Hello Joe,

Trying again…

I just happened across an SFist article I decided it was worth ending my boycott in order to comment on, and got an error message saying I’ve been banned by SFist!

This definitely seems at odds with what you told me you believe to be the case.

Have you heard of others being mysteriously censored like this for no obvious reason, and none that was ever disclosed to me?

Your thoughts?

Hi Joe,

This is Starchild, we met and spoke briefly outside the Ocean Avenue party on Saturday, just following up. Can you send me the email address(es) for the editor(s) of SFist, and confirm what you said to me in person about the reason why a month’s worth of my comments were suddenly deleted from the site without explanation (but not other comments, as far as I could tell)? They were I think (mostly?) subsequently restored after a few months, but in the interim I could not get hold of anyone to ask about it, and never did get a response or an explanation. So I haven’t been using the site since.

On an unrelated topic, I’m always happy to talk to you or other reporters any time you need a quote for the pro-freedom side of some issue you are covering (supporting civil liberties, minimal government, less taxes and regulations, etc.) Please keep me in your address book and don’t hesitate to give me a call any time at the number below.

To clarify – since the software we’re using for the LPSF Forum email lists unhelpfully remove message headers – the messages below are correspondence I sent to Joe Kukura, a reporter for local web-only news outlet SFist, after running into him at an event.

He gave me his email address then, but never replied to my previous messages, and this latest email I sent him is now bouncing.

I’ve tried contacting SFist through multiple other means, even went by their listed “office” on California Street (an apparent residential address where the individuals who answered the door were weirdly close-mouthed, refusing to acknowledge any connection with the publication or provide any info.

News outlets rely heavily on sources being willing to communicate with them, return their phone calls, etc. It’s always a little incredible to me when one of them so blatantly fails at basic communication as soon as the shoe is on the other foot.

If anyone reading this knows anybody else who works for SFist, has contact info for someone there, or comes across any such persons or information, please let me know.
