Interestingly, I had a nice talk today with one of my Parkmerced neighbors, who was ringing door bells collecting signatures for the "Save Parmerced" initiative. He indicated the proponents had more than enough to qualify, but were just gathering some more as insurance. He was aghast and somewhat angry when I said I would not sign nor would I vote in favor of it; but with some talk, we departed friends. In exchange for his good will, I promised to mention this initiative at the LPSF meeting; which I will. From my point of view, the initiative seeks to prevent the owners of Parkmerced from doing with their property what they wish (getting rid of the garden apartments like mine). From my neighbor's point of view, the initiative will guarantee "the basic human right to shelter" that the Parkmerced owners are attempting to take away.
