Hi All. We didn't get through all the ballot arguments yesterday, but we
did cover all the major ones. Here is my understanding of who is writing
against which ballot measure, so as to prevent any confusion or
misunderstanding from the way we were jumping around yesterday from measure
to measure:
Sugary Beverage Tax-Starchild
Real Estate Transfer Tax-Mike Denny
Bond for SF Unified School District-me
Dignity Fund-Phil
Loan Program for Acquisition of Affordable Housing-Ryan
BART Bond-already written by Wendy Lack from the East Bay and will be
submitted to the Alameda County Registrar on Wednesday (their due date)
Les--hang on to the CCSF tax argument that you already wrote (pre-empted by
Peskin) as it's always possible that we may submit it as a paid argument if
we don't do so well in the lottery on Thursday.
If my understanding is not correct on any of the above, please let me know
immediately so I can write the argument myself. Please post them to the
Activist List no later than midnight Wednesday night so there isn't a big
commotion on Thursday morning with submission to the Department of
Elections.
The word limit is 300 words and the signer(s) at the bottom goes into the
word count too. The preferred method is to just list the LPSF's name, but
per the consensus yesterday, there was no objection to listing the
individual writer's name too.
After the lottery at 2PM on Thursday, we can assess the situation and see
where we stand and decide if we should submit any paid arguments on Monday.
For the lesser important ballot measures that still need our ay or nay or
perhaps a No Recommendation for our recommendations for the website and
postcard mailing (which won't be a postcard due to the number of ballot
measures this time), I may take one or two at a time and post my thoughts
about them on the Activist List for review by the group after we get
through next Monday. Or we could finish them up at the next meeting.
However, that meeting will be shorter than usual due to scheduling problems
at the Main Branch of the library (will go from 4-5:30 PM and we'll post
the change all over the place so everyone has advance warning), so I'm not
in favor of leaving everything for that meeting.
