Hi all,
I just got off the phone with the Elections Department, and good news – three of our filings won the lottery and were selected as the official opponent arguments, against Propositions A, H, and I!
Prop. A is the school bond measure, Prop. H is the firefighters’ pensions measure, and Prop. I is the nursing and 911 operators pensions measure. I hadn’t heard from Jawj, who was having some trouble with her printer, so I didn’t know she was going to end up writing hers against Prop. I, and I didn’t have a chance to go over it except very briefly at the Elections Department office, but she showed up and brought it in, and it was selected, along with the two that Trip wrote and I edited!
All of the measures had at least one other group filing arguments against them, so we had decent luck to win on three. There were at least half a dozen others submitted against the Great Highway measure, Prop. K – Richie Greenberg got the opponents slot on that one – and several against the transportation network measure Prop. L, which went to the SF Chamber of Commerce. Those two each attracted quite a few prospective opponents, the Great Highway measure at least half a dozen.
So we have until noon on Monday (August 19) to write and submit 250-word rebuttal arguments on the school bond measure and the two pension measures. They haven’t posted any of the arguments to the Elections Department website yet, so we don’t yet know what the proponents of these measures have submitted for their arguments in favor, but hopefully will soon.
If anyone would like to help with researching or writing rebuttals, or reaching out to possible co-signers, please let me know.
