Annual Election of Officers Next Month + Two Great Initiatives

Hi All. The Libertarian Party of San Francisco will hold its annual election of officers next month on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at its monthly business meeting from 3:00-5:00 PM. The location will be 1390 Market Street #2910 at Fox Plaza in the Civic Center in San Francisco. After the meeting there will be a social with plenty of food, beverage, and lively conversation. 2017 was a relatively quiet year for us, but 2018 is shaping up to be very busy with lots of interesting ballot measures. Please consider joining us an officer or activist as we can always use extra help. To run as an officer, you only need to be a current (paid up) member of the Libertarian Party of San Francisco or Libertarian Party of California and to have signed the party pledge. Now is a great time to get involved and help the party grow and spread the good word of liberty and limited government.

The LPSF is currently gathering signatures on two important state initiatives that we hope will be on the November 2018 ballot. Measure 1816 will finally give California voters the opportunity to get rid of the Top Two system that has plagued the state since 2011. If the voters get rid of the Top Two, we will return to the old semi-closed primary system that allowed each party to field their candidate in the November election. Under the current system, only two candidates advance on to the general election, giving state voters very limited choices. In fact, in the 6 years we’ve had the Top Two, no third-party candidate has ever advanced on to the November election when both major parties fielded candidates. Measure 1830 will give the voters a chance to weigh in on the gas tax increases forced on the residents of California. It requires that the current gas tax increases that went into effect on November 1 and all future gas tax increases be approved by the voters before they can be implemented. This one will definitely have the politicians in a complete panic should it pass! If you can help to get signatures for either or both of these initiatives—even if only from your family or friends—please email chairlpsf@gmail.com. Every little bit helps!

Lastly, we wish you a very festive holiday season, and we hope you take a moment to think about the precious freedoms that are still left in this country and why they matter.

Sincerely,

Aubrey Freedman
