The book was originally recommended on Lew Rockwell as a rebuttal to the school taught history of the South and slavery and the real reasons for the North invasion of the South.
I read the comments written below the book which covered the good the bad and the ugly about the book and decided to make it a keeper.
We can discuss at the next LPSF. And you can submit after finding one - a replacement which covers basically the same topic but from authors who are choir boys in background.
However, while the brothers are rascists in their intent I am just as certain other titles will come up where the authors aren't exactly altar boys when it comes to their backgrounds.
But we'll get it on the agenda.
The are other books by Hernando de Soto that I'd love to put on the list but they aren't on Amazon yet. There are also some great books on Mises that aren't yet on Amazon I'd love to include. Some by Mises and Hayek and Rothbard.
Count me as one (northern) guy who despises efforts to justify the Confederacy.
Did the north invade out of altruistic desire to help the slaves? No.
Was the south a fascist, racist regime that was both illegitimate and in need of toppling by its lawful federal government? Absolutely.
The freeing of the slaves simply sweetened the deal, as far as I'm concerned!
Cheers,
Brian
