Advertising & Recruiting

I think we should consider paid advertising on Facebook or Google.

When people are energized about politics, it would be good to show them
some new ideas and recruit some new members.

The last time I used FB ads, it was possible to target people who lived
in San Francisco and liked "Atlas Shrugged" or "Gay Rights."

Although there are other ways to recruit members, this is always a good
value, especially now that more people are spending time inside and
online. On the other hand, a lot of people are just hibernating now, and
growing communities online is challenging.

It would be a good idea to update our online presence so that people
could easily find our positions, yahoo lists, chat rooms, etc.

What do you think?

Thanks for starting the conversation, Jeff. I think online advertising is reasonable to consider, but that if we're going to spend money on it that we should give our business to less-dominant and less-problematic sites. Not only is it more focused on being "part of the solution" rather than "part of the problem", but I also suspect that people who are willing to use alternative media sites may also be more willing to consider an alternative political party. Our ads could even equate the two situations. Also, we did try advertising on Facebook a year or two ago, and the results were underwhelming.
