ACTION ITEM - Poll on taxing medical marijuana

A MMJ website asks, "Should states collect sales tax on medical cannabis?" Only 17 people have voted, so there's a good chance to affect the results. The poll is on this page, on the right panel:

I suppose it would work like a cigarette tax: If the state were making
money off marijuana sales, they would have to encourage them, in one way
or another.

Yes, but we are the party of principle and we oppose
taxes. I don't think we can make exceptions, although
I see your point.

Well, that's the thinking among those elements of the cannabis community who are supportive of such a tax (not all of them think it's a good idea by any means, even the non-libertarians). Personally I oppose marijuana being subject to sales tax, as I don't think it guarantees anything other than government getting more money. And in fact the California tax franchise board recently issued a decision that medical marijuana providers should pay such a tax, a decision that was unaccompanied by any additional legal recognition or protection for those paying the tax.

There's an implied smiley in a lot of what I say.
