AA: Bay Restoration Authority, a new argument

Focusing on local control and taxing fairness in the Bay Restoration Authority special assessment proposal will, I feel, fall upon deaf ears. I don't know who is writing the opposition article for the LPSF, but I wanted to offer a different tactic I feel will be more effective:

"Bay Restoration is often a codeword for the creation of swamp. With the return to the Bay of the aedes Aegypti Mosquito, the vector for a number of diseases such as the disturbing Zika virus, bay restorations endangers quality of life in many communities. The creation of the San Pablo Bay Wildlife Refuge was a disaster for local vector control authorities, alarmed as mosquitos rendered Bay neighborhoods uninhabitable. Mosquito authorities may not visit many parts of tidal marshes from January to September lest they disturb birds. The main mechanism authorities control mosquitos is through "improvements to hydrology," which is not restoration at all. Environmental Impact Reports for mosquito control drag on for years, adding to human suffering."

Hi Kelvin,

Welcome to the LPSF Discussion List!

Indeed, campaigning against clean water and pollution prevention is a challenging task. However, speaking out in favor of local control and against unrestrained taxation is what we do at the LPSF. So, our opposition to Measure AA had to come from that perspective.

Your information regarding restoration creating swamp is most interesting, but nothing I know about. I am wondering if you care to point us to some studies and other publications on this topic. I would be willing to investigate the swamp angle and write something about it -- either for the LPSF website or for the Nine County Coalition website.

Thanks for offering a new view on this subject.

Regards,

Marcy

Sorry Kelvin, I saw this post that Harland forwarded to the San Mateo LP list and responded there, but only then saw that you'd originally posted here, and went back and found I'd overlooked your original post here. Anyway, yes, welcome to the list. Do you live in San Francisco? What brings you to the LPSF?

Love & Liberty,
