A BLAST FROM THE PAST

Dear Everyone;

A blast from the past so to speak. The Sunday Chronicle picks events from the past and this is one of those. Somewhat chilling in retrospect and definitely chilling in light of todays world events and the lets nuke Iran Bush neo-cons in Washington.

Let's dismantle all nuclear weapons in all countries of the world - quickly - if you please - very quickly.

This web site url is for showing what an atomic bomb blast could do in various cities - you can even adjust the size of the kilotonnage. It may require up to date java to work correctly.

Go ahead check it out out - play God or more likely the Devil and try different blast sizes and wipe out whole cities and kill millions.

Here's a look at the Bay Area's past. Items have been culled from The Chronicle's archives from 25, 50, 75 and 100 years ago.

1957

June 19: Those who were up and looking in the direction of yesterday's Nevada atom bomb blast were rewarded with a glimpse of the brightest A-flash yet observed from the Bay Area. The horizon flared yellow and the glow lasted several minutes, according to observers in the East Bay, Marin and on the Peninsula. The device was unofficially rated at about 10 kilotons, or 10,000 tons of TNT. This is about half the size of the atomic bombs dropped in World War II.
