2 World Affairs Council events - Steering Committee meeting 630pm TONIGHT, Micro-lending forum 6pm TOMORROW

Both these events are free and open to the public. (Sorry for the late notice, I just got the info.) The first is a chance to help the group plan future events, the second is an event at the Mexican consulate on microcredits & education, microcredits being a voluntary, free market approach to getting people out of poverty that Libertarians should definitely support.

Love & liberty,

If you are interested in learning more about international affairs and cultures and would like to get more involved with the YPIF, please join us at our monthly IF Steering Committee meetings--open to all. Monthly meetings are typically held the first Tuesday of every month.

This month the Steering Committee Meeting we will be dedicated to program planning and deciding on discussion topics for the June meeting.

Support Women in Chiapas, Mexico
Wednesday , May 2, 2007

A group of IF members will be attending a special event and silent auction to support women in Chiapas, Mexico on May 2nd hosted by the Consulate General of Mexico featuring NamasteDirect, AlSol, and women from Chiapas. NamasteDirect and AlSol unite in an effort to improve the living of the women in Chiapas by providing them with the skills of managing their own life needs through microcredits and education.

Responsible for half the world’s food production, women play a key role in sustainable food security in many countries, yet they have considerably less access to land, education and investment funds than men. This is why microcredit often seems like the only solution to break poverty’s vicious circle and is widely acclaimed as the most important antipoverty invention of the twentieth century.

The event will include speakers, opportunity to meet women from Chiapas, a silent auction, and sale of products crafted by the women of Chiapas such as custom jewelry. Please make sure to bring cash in case you’d like to purchase items.

After the event, the IF group will meet at Maya Restaurant for a drink to discuss the event.

IF you are interested in joining us, please contact Griselda Fernandez, 415-531-1025.

For more information about the event, contact The Consulate General of Mexico at mfelix@..., 415-354-1721 or 415-354-1722.
