It's a perfect example of why people despise the police.
This 'bust 'em all let the courts sort 'em out' attitude makes even
crime victims or good samaritans more fearful of them than the
criminals.

Maybe I got this wrong, but it seems that the so called good samaritan was the bus driver. He apparently stopped the bus and helped the folks accross. Thats nice, but wreckless. If he was going to help folks to cross the street, he should have done it at a corner, Jaywalking is dangerous.
Phil,
The bus driver *is* the one who was ticketed for jaywalking. Presumably the reason he didn't cross at the corner is that the bus stop where he stopped to let the women off was not located at a corner. Sure, jaywalking can be dangerous, but ticketing people is pretty pointless as a deterrent. In the cases where it carries little risk, only a real jerk of a cop is going to write you a ticket, and in the cases where the risk is high, the chance of getting hit by a car provides a much more effective deterrent. Also, the more people jaywalk, the less dangerous it becomes, because drivers are more on the lookout for it. So the very few lives the law saves by deterring people from jaywalking are also offset by the increased risk to other jaywalkers that results from the law making jaywalking less expected.

Tell that to the Judge(:-))
True---it justs shows how, in the police state, that even an innocent
act can have legal consequences.
