Activist Reports: We reportedwhat we’d done to strike blows for freedom since the last meeting. Dylan has attended LP meetings before, inparticular LP Sacramento County, which has a pretty active chapter. Alex is a freshman at UC Berkeley and hasbeen working with the Berkeley College Republicans. She has been working on starting a YALchapter at the university, and they had a “Free Speech Ball” event which waspretty successful. She has also workedon helping to get Ben Shapiro (whose speaking engagement at CSULA sparked amajor protest) to speak at the campus on April 11. Aubrey reported he put out the monthlynewsletter and tabled at the YAL debate at SFSU earlier this month.
Announcements: There is a “We Are Breitbart” meet-up coming up onMarch 16 (which was subsequently cancelled). The Golden Gate Liberty Revolution monthly meeting is March 21. Theannual California LP State Convention will be held at the Hilton LAX Airportfrom April 1 through April 3. The JSA semi-annual convention event will beheld at the Santa Clara Marriott Hotel, as always, on Saturday, April 23, andAubrey can give a ride to anyone who wants to come along to help out at thetabling hosted by Lawrence Samuels of the Monterey County LP. There will a forum on police accountabilityfeaturing SFPD Chief Greg Suhr and Public Defender Jeff Adachi hosted by theRaoul Wallenberg Jewish Democratic Club on May 3. Transportation Event. All arrangements have been madefor our Sunday, April 10 panel discussion on regional transportationissues. It will be held 1:30 - 3:30 p.m.at the Noe Valley Public Library. Thespeakers will be Tom Rubin (a Libertarian-leaning transportation expert) andGerry Cauthen (a “Save Muni” supporter of public transportation, but not anuncritical one). It will be taped forYouTube. We reviewed Marcy Berry’sflyers for the event and heard Aubrey’s report on his publicity efforts, aimedat groups involved in the fight against regional Bay Area transportation anddevelopment initiatives. We voted toallot $200 to publicize this and other events on our San Francisco LP Facebookpage. Pride Booth. Aubrey reported that we are officially registered for this year’s Pridebooth on June 25-26. He was pleased tofind that the process was simpler this year because it could be done online andwas also cheaper ($205 this year vs. $380 last year, due to a new fee structurethat favors small non-profits). Asusual, we are hitchhiking on the coattails of Outright Libertarians, and havebeen invited to march with the Pink Pistols. Aubrey will print more of our best-selling pink Pride leaflet. Wediscussed a possible new spin-the-wheel game activity to highlight issues. Ballot Measures. We reviewed the six final voter measures that will appear on the Juneballot. We decided that we would take anopposing position on four of them: (Regional) Proposition AA: San Francisco Bay Restoration Authority Clean and Healthy Bay ParcelTax, creating a $12 per year parcel tax for Bay cleanup and restoration Prop A: Public Health and Safety Bond, authorizing a $350million general obligation bond for ‘elf and safety construction Prop C: Affordable Housing Requirements, authorizing theBoard of Supervisors to set (likely increase) inclusionary housing requirementsfor development Prop E: Paid Sick Leave, requiring all city employers toprovide 9 days of sick leave for employers of 10 or more employees and 5 daysof sick leave for employers of 9 or less employees. (SF’s Paid Leave Ordinance has already beensuperseded by the state’s version in many ways, so this measure will mirror thestate’s version and add in additional mandates and rules for employers. We decided not to submit ballot arguments on two othermeasures: 1) one creating a $3 million per annum set aside for the next 30years for additional spending on parks, recreation and open space, and 2) onerequiring the Office of Citizen Complaints to investigate all police shootings. We will submit ballot arguments (limited to 300 words) bythe March 17th deadline, drafted by Aubrey (Props AA and C), Jawj(Prop A), and Starchild (Prop E). Unlessfor each of our submissions we win the lottery that allows one argument permeasure to be published for free as the “official” argument pro or con, we willsolicit funds to pay for the estimated $800 cost of any paid argument. Thanks! Aubrey
