You never know what politicians will plan with future restrictions in
mind. However, I heard from my daughter and her friends who were
there that the scene was totally ruined by young people bent on
making trouble. Could be these party poopers were gang members
attracted by the tension in the air created by so much publicity
about possible violence. Community events are important to support,
in my opinion; but not if they cause harm to people and property.
One solution might be to cordon off community event areas, and charge
admission high enough to pay private security to keep an eye on
trouble makers and cleaning/repair crews to restore mess and damage.

Are we sure this wasn't a Reichstag fire, as a pretext for

Dear Starchild and Derek;
The actual cause was tiwo rival gangs bumping heads with weach

Derek,
I think you're confusing cause and effect. The heavy police
presence
was well planned in advance. If anything, I think the widespread
expectations of violence fanned and embraced by city officials
contributed to the tense atmosphere evident in the shootings. Treat
people like criminals, and more of them will tend to act the part.
