tassered mentally unstable man

I just read in the paper that the police officer who ordered another police office to tasser the mentally unstable man who fell to his death, just committed suicide. I guess rather than being a bad apple, the police officer made a terrible mistake that he felt so terrible about, that he killed himself.

I saw this story, too. I am certainly not glad that the officer is
dead; in fact, it is a tragedy that one of the few officers apparently
sensitive enough to the public to feel badly over this is now gone. I
am hopeful, however, that the loss of one of their own will be an
incentive for police departments to review their policies on less-lethal
weapons. Perhaps this will be what it takes to make that happen.

I agree, Chris. Although without knowing the details, we can't rule out the possibility that the officer committed suicide not because he felt guilty for causing the death of the man who was Tasered, but because he could see the writing on the wall that his career was effectively over because of the incident.

As soon as I saw this story, I was immediately reminded of a scene from the
new David Mamet film, "Redbelt." Different situation entirely, but
similarly tragic.

Great movie, by the way, that I'm sure you will appreciate. It just became
available on DVD last month. Highly recommended if you enjoy Mamet's work
or martial arts in general.
