Taking Aim at Small-Arms Trafficking

Dear Zenit,

This is such a bad idea I'm feeling embarrassed to be a Catholic. Anytime a governmental agency, including the UN, starts interfering with the ability of people to arm themselves, it opens the door to tyranny. We all know the rich and powerful will always have access to guns. Here in San Francisco, other than police, only rich politicians are allowed to carry guns. The first thing Hitler did to the Jews before rounding them up, was to disarm them. The first thing the Turks did to the Armenians before they slaughtered them, was disarm them. See http://www.innocentsbetrayed.com/

Every time the Vatican comes out in support of government or quasi government intervention in the lives of Catholics, it says the Church is not the voice of authority. It's saying that it needs governmental support to validate its message of Christ's peace and love. And it also says it trusts political authority over the power of Jesus.

Everyone knows there's a problem when guns are involved. But removing the legal right for innocent people to defend themselves against criminals and criminal governmental agencies is also immoral. As Christ's message was completely contrary to that of political authority and earthly power, I can't understand why the Church feels the need to ask government to intervene on behalf Christ on so many issues. Christ didn't compromise His authority by asking the State to intervene in His relationship to the Father or the people. Why would the Vatican compromise their authority by asking the State to intervene? Don't Catholics believe that Christ alone will solve the problem? Or are we supposed to believe that Christ somehow needs a little extra help from government to get things done?

We will know that Christ has worked His magic when all guns are turned into tools of production. Trying to hasten this process by making guns illegal is a silly human vanity the Vatican should be smart enough to avoid.

Respectfully yours,

Michael Denny

Dear MIke;

  From reading all the other articles from Zenit I come to the following conclusion: Make Babies not War while blogging for God. ( As long as She don't mind)
