One of the measures on the ballot in California this November is Prop. 37 (see http://www.sos.ca.gov/elections/ballot-measures/qualified-ballot-measures.htm ), which would require labeling of genetically modified food. Such laws are controversial among libertarians -- are labeling laws unjustified government regulation, or a reasonable measure to prevent what could amount to fraud? Related to this are questions about GMO's (genetically modified organisms) themselves -- how safe are they?
An upcoming event sponsored by the San Francisco Vegetarian Society here in San Francisco this July 26 (see details below) promises to give a good view of one side of that debate. Good opportunity to bring your toughest questions for the speakers, including best-selling author John Robbins, and other knowledgeable individuals present. Low-cost and sliding scale, so you don't have to pay anything to attend if you don't wish.
