SF Liberty Coalition event this Thursday evening - City Commissions, Boards, etc. - What Are They Doing? Is It Working?

On the 3rd Thursday of each month from 7-9pm, we turn the 50 Mason Social House into a forum to look at various aspects of local politics from a pro-freedom perspective. Join us to learn, network, socialize, have a drink or two, and make new friends!

This month we'll be taking a look at San Francisco's city committees, commissions, boards, and task forces. How many are there, anyway? Ninety-six? 97? 116? What are they doing? How much is it costing? Around $6.5 million a year, as the Budget Analyst guessed, or more? Are their contributions helping the city?

Our guest for the first part of the evening will be Joe Eskenazi, the reporter who wrote the terrific July 27th SF Weekly cover story on this topic (see http://www.sfweekly.com/2011-07-27/news/san-francisco-commission-inefficien-joe-eskenazi/ ). After hearing from Joe, and possibly from Supervisor Jane Kim or someone from her office, we'll introduce a panel of current and former members of various city committees to talk about their experiences and answer questions.

So if you've ever wondered about these commissions, wanted to serve on one, or just want to see more transparency and accountability, come join us for what's sure to be an interesting discussion, and as always, bring your tough, pro-freedom questions!
