SF Liberation Radio Benefit (Sat. Nov. 1st, SF)

Francoise,

Well, this is the latest chapter in an ongoing saga. The government's
basic "reason" for the raid is that the station was unlicensed and
therefore illegal. The more immediate cause was that some FCC agents
showed up a few weeks before the bust and asked to look around, and the
station operators, facing no compulsion to let them in, refused to do
so. One of the articles I read on the issue around that time quoted the
station's lawyer as saying they had applied for a license in the past
(twice, if memory serves), but the applications were denied because --
again if memory serves -- they didn't meet other criteria that they
couldn't have met without being licensed, i.e. a Catch-22 situation.
Defenders of SFLR say the station is the radio equivalent of public
access or community TV, and that the government ought to allow space on
the airwaves for such efforts. If you do an Internet search you should
be able to turn up some recent news articles with better information on
the history of the conflict.

Yours in liberty,
              <<< Starchild >>>

This sounds like something I'd like to support, financially, if not
with my presence, but I'd like to know more about what happened and
why and the government's "reason".
Francoise
