I’ve stayed out of most of the Paul discussion here, so my apologies for
dredging this up. I just found it so strange; I may be the only person
here who reads SFGate’s gossip column, “The Daily Dish.” (My excuse is
that I want to know what the rest of the country considers important.)
Apparently, eminent political scientist Leonardo DiCaprio is
disappointed with this cycle’s candidates: “But DiCaprio admits the
frontrunners for 2008’s election — Democratic candidates senators
Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama and Republican Ron Paul — have yet to
catch his attention with their environmental policies.”
My other excuse for writing is that Ron Paul *is* causing some effective
libertarian outreach. I met a gentleman (white, gay, 50s-ish, if you
care) at a party a couple of weeks ago who is very interested in Paul’s
message of liberty and of sound money. This has provoked more interest
in libertarian issues in general, and he may come to this month’s LPSF
meeting (which, unfortunately, I can’t make). If he shows up, please
tell him hi for me.
