I'd rather see the whole economy collapse so hopefully the people will
see the error of their ways and chose a new direction. A VAT is simply
going to postpone the inevitable, increase the tax burden on society
without teaching the people anything new about responsibility or
freedom.

If the economy collapsed, everyone would blame the President, the
Federal Reserve, and the libertarians for "lack of responsible
control of our economy." Just as I heard on several NPR shows right
after Katrina, that libertarians were to blame for the devastation,
because of their crazy ideas of lowering taxes and diminishing
government assistance.
