RE: [lpsf-discuss] SF CHRONILCE ARTICLE ON HOWIE RICH - LIBERTARIAN - FUNDING YES ON PROP 90 - EMINENT DOMAIN

Dear Editor,

The editorial that appeared in the San Jose Mercury News October 2nd, Prop. 90 would gut wise land use controls is totally misleading. The whole problem started in New London, Conn., when Pfizer Pharmaceutical Company decided they wanted to build a conference center on a beautiful bluff overlooking the harbor. The problem was they didnt own the houses or land that they wanted and the owners wouldnt sell. Pfizer just went to the city council and had them take the property by Eminent Domain. The case went all the way to the Supreme Court and the court said it was OK because the city would get more property tax from the conference center than they would ever get from the family homes that were there at the time.

George W. Bush has said nothing to condemn this infamous ruling known as the Kelo Decision. The California Legislature has had over a year to fix this disastrous 2005 Supreme Court ruling in California. Now cities and counties are taking private property by Eminent Domain from California to Maine. Redwood City lost a whole city block of small businesses that are now a movie theater, because the city thought they would get more taxes. Of course the cities, counties and the Big Boys are opposing Prop. 90 - - - they like total control of your property. Vote yes on Proposition 90.
