Generally speaking this is not the case of all Catholic priests. I have an acquaintance whose Catholic priest told him to keep the sexual aspects of their marriage alive and well to take his wife out a couple times a month to a hot sheet motel with a bottle of wine and treat her like a whore.
Whether or not he was BS ing from what I knew of this Catholic priest he probably wasn't.
What this Catholic priest may have said about sex outside of marriage I can only guess but I'm certain he would have recommneded a few Hail Marys after a Confession and would have been satisfied.
This Catholic priest was very down to earth when it came to the foibles of his parishoners and I do not believe he was totally toe the line doctrinaire on Catholic edicts. I think he was as the saying goes "Beloved By His Parishoners".
