RE: [lpsf-discuss] petition to release shoe throwing reporter

I truly don't understand why it's o.k. to throw shoes at anyone. You can protest without throwing shoes or other things. Would it be o.k. if someone didn't like your politics and they threw a shoe at you. If the shoe actually hit you, wouldn't that be assault?

I agree, but the question here is what is the appropriate punishment. It's been reported that he was brutally beaten in custody and may face seven years in prison. Is that appropriate punishment in your opinion?

- Steve

It's assault whether or not the shoe hits.

I suppose, but I haven't killed millions on lies, I haven't ordered the torture of innocents, and ignored my oath of office. Shoes are far too kind, Hitler got a briefcase bomb., and besides they have already beat the guy up soundly. How much violence did this guy have initiated against him by Bush???

Whatever you call it, is the appropriate punishment to be severely beaten and put in a cage for seven years? I would put this stunt at about the same level as the guy that hit Bill Gates in the face with a pie. At most, it should be a misdemeanor - a few days at most in jail and a fine for a first offense.

Personally, I see the police beating him as a far greater crime. Who will pay for that crime?

- Steve

Interesting side note: in Scandanavia there are riots going on over
the bailout. In Greece, there are mass protests over police
brutality. In Alabama last weekend there was a small riot over the
firing of a football coach. What does that tell you about the
American people?

It's assault whether or not the shoe hits.

Do you mean in Iceland? If not, can you send me the link? I couldn't find any news article on bailout riots in Scandanavia.

I meant Iceland, but someone told me (but I didn't get a source)
that there were some demonstrations in Norway as well.
