RE: [lpsf-discuss] corruption and the nature of political parties

Thanks, David, for your observations on the DAF. It's unfortunately entirely standard, in my experience--not just the LPSF, but libertarians everywhere, and Objectivists above all--for us to greet newcomers and guests with relentless, rapid-fire challenges, as to why they're not hard-core libertarians already. I would have assumed the basis for our inviting O'Flynn was primarily the support we might offer him; instead we hit him--rather hard, as you suggest--with our own agenda: We want you to come out publicly against eminent domain in principle. That would unquestionably be a nice outcome, but I'm often concerned that our approach makes that less rather than more likely. At a family funeral 19 years ago, a distant relative I'd never met before saw the Clark bumper sticker on my car as we were leaving, and exclaimed, with considerable surprise, "At last I've met a nice libertarian." I was sorry I knew what she meant. It's hard to go about saving the world in a relaxed, friendly way.

Thanks to Starchild for arranging the event, and to him and Kelly for the follow-up attendance at the meeting.
