Marcy, you can change the website to show the speaker at 4:00, but I consider the speaker to be part of our business meeting (getting involved in local politics), so it’s not a big deal either way. I think speakers of interest add to our meetings when I can find one; my very first LPSF meeting in October of 2010 had that candidate running for Supervisor in District 6 (I think), and as an outsider I didn’t find the meeting boring at all and came back for more. A brief mention of the speaker in the announcement could spur someone new to attend who might not otherwise.
As for your suggestion, Michael, that’s fine, and let’s start right now. One item on the agenda that I would like to clear out of the way now so we’re not so rushed in our regular business meeting is the Folsom Street Fair. A guest to our monthly meeting almost 2 months ago brought this up, and I never did get a chance to finish it. She suggested we run a booth at this street fair, and she said she would be willing to help (wo)man the booth. Marcy and I discussed this briefly sometime after the meeting, and we both think it’s not a good idea. The reasons: cost of the booth not cheap (similar to Pride–around $300 for the booth and then about $100 for literature, if this crowd would even be sober enough to be interested in our literature), and kind of a tacky affair for the LPSF to be at. If the cost were really low, I might consider it, but since it’s not, I say better to save our funds for a more wholesome affair like Pride. Please weigh in on this issue here on this list, and I then I will remove it from Saturday’s agenda.
Thanks!
Aubrey

Subject: [lpsf-activists] Re: Agenda for Meeting This Saturday June 9Reminder. The website and the official announcements for this meeting indicate business 3- 5 and social afterwards. I can change the website to show speaker at 4:00 but suggest we stay until 5:00 to avoid incurring the ire of anyone that shows up to join the social.

Aubrey,
Sounds like a terrific agenda. Very ambitious.
I suggest we begin at 3:05 sharp. I’ll do my best, with your assistance, to
keep to the time controls.Agenda item: Can we spend a few minutes on the old business of the
experiment to limit our business segment to fewer than 2 hours? Since we are
actually shortening the business it at this meeting, perhaps we could
briefly evaluate how it went, and continuing with this approach at the July
meeting?Warm regards, Michael

Subject: [lpsf-activists] Agenda for Meeting This Saturday June 9Hi All! Here is the agenda for this Saturday’s meeting. I have invited to
speak to us one of the candidates running for Supervisor in District 7 (my
home district) Joel Engardio. I have exchanged quite a few emails with this
guy (though I have never met him in person) and found him to be fairly
Libertarian-leaning (though a Democrat). I thought he might be a possible
candidate that we could support in this upcoming election, if he comes close
to meeting our standards. I had to squeeze all our business into the first
hour, but if you have something else you would like to discuss at this
meeting, please let me know, and I can squeeze some more.Libertarian Party of San Francisco Agenda: Saturday, June 9, 2012
