RE: [lpsf-activists] LPSF Meeting of 10/8/05 - Oct. 26 Marijuana Rally details/Outreach poster idea

Thanks Morey...I'm in for $50 too.

Mike Denny

Brilliant!

As long none of the panels Starchild outlined (see below)
are excluded, I'm in for $50.

Where do I send it? To whom do I make out the check?

Best, Michael E.
www.ThreeMinuteTherapy.com

I will also contribute $50. Can I just send my check to M. Acree?

I like the poster idea also. And am very impressed with the response,
which has prompted me to pledge $20.

For now, I would be concerned about spending LPSF funds beyond our
monthly fixed costs (mail box, web hosting, pizza), until we see how
well we do getting new membership dues on our own. (I know, we need
to invest in order to gain; so we need to invest cautiously.)

Starchild, I would suggest that all donations be sent to Treasurer
Mike Acree payable to the LPSF (859 45th Ave, S.F. 94121), with a
note on the check memo that the funds are specifically for the poster.
If you find that the poster will cost more than the donations, then
we can decide what else we need to do.

Count me in for $20 also.

I like the poster idea also. And am very impressed with the response,
which has prompted me to pledge $20.

I think we should also shoot to have some cooler outreach

materials

than what we've got now. Here's one idea I had for an LP (or

LPSF)

poster, which I think I mentioned to some folks at Bryce's

party. It

would feature a large central panel in the shape of a thought

bubble,

surrounded by a bunch of smaller circular panels depicting

people in

different situations with little thought bubbles coming from

their

heads and feeding into the big thought in the middle (all

thinking the

same thing), which would read, "Who will stand up for our

rights?"

People thinking this in the different panels would include a

family

agonizing over a 1040 form; a young black man being manhandled

by

police; an elderly woman seated and smoking a joint under a

medical

marijuana sign outside a dispensary; some kids with skateboards

looking

up sadly at a 'No Skateboarding' sign; a prostitute being led

off in

handcuffs by police; a businessman looking at a 'Suspension of

Permit'

notice in the window of his business; a gay couple holding

hands and

watching their straight friends' driving off in a car festooned

with a

'Just Married' banner; a family watching their home being

destroyed by

a bulldozer next to a billboard labeled 'Redevelopment Agency

project

with fine print underneath it'; Some Latino migrants looking

across the

Rio Grande at armed guards standing on a wall with an American

flag;

some people in New Orleans having their guns confiscated from

their

home (a la the cartoon attached below). At the bottom of the

poster,

the words "We will." Under that, a Libertarian Party logo, and

under

that, the slogan "We're all about freedom." Then the party

phone number

and website in smaller type. Ideally I envision the pictures

done as

staged or found photos, but getting them done as illustrated

art would

probably be easier.

As far as costs, with a little luck we could find an artist to

do the

art for free for the exposure and to help a good cause. If not

for

free, we could probably find someone to do it for like $50 or

$100 or

something. RockBottomPrinting offers 500 full color posters

measuring

18" by 24" for $600 (see

http://www.rockbottomprinting.com/Price.asp).

What do you all think? Would this be a good use of some of our

funds?

Starchild, I love this idea! I'd vote to use funds for it. I'd

also

be willing to contribute $50 toward making it happen. I'm

envisioning

it in the style of a "rock poster", the kind with comic book art

used

mainly to promote independent rock shows. I know of a guy who

could

do it a reasonable cost, (maybe $200?) If you can find someone to

do

it cheaper, all the better.
