Prop G rebuttal

Mike,

Don't say the voters are turning ugly. That's the way the mainstream
media likes to spin these things. The politicians have turned ugly
(over the past 200 years). If we have to characterize the voters, let's
say they're getting smart.

I just came back from a trip to Colorado and everyone was talking about
it. Also, Denver just elected a business man Mayor who had never been
in
politics before. Denver voters threw out the politicians and went for
something completely new. My friends said that was reason for me to be
optimistic about my campaign. The voters are turning ugly.

Hear, hear! Mike, even though I was disagreeing with you earlier about
Prop. G, this is an excellent argument. Just having this kind of
reasoning in the ballot book is arguably of such positive value that it

offsets any negative effects that may be caused by opposing what I
regard as a harmless good-government measure. Where did you find out
about the way Colorado handles surplus revenues? That is a terrific
comparison.

Proposition G says it provides "a cushion to City services" during

downturns. But where's the cushion for San Francisco's taxpayers?
Nowhere!<<

Great line!

Proposition G is not sound fiscal management or good government. It's
the exact opposite. In fact, it motivates City Hall to overtax San
Franciscans and keep the money.

Proposition G says it "will eliminate double-digit spending
increases".
Big deal! It allows City Hall to tax as much as they want. And the 5%
spending increase allowed under Proposition G represents nearly $250
million dollars per year. If politicians tax more than 5%, the rest
goes
into their "Rainy Day Fund". Thanks Supervisors.

The Supervisors say the "Rainy Day Fund" is reasonable as other states
have them. Who cares? State fiscal irresponsibility is rampant. But in
Colorado, all excess funds go back to taxpayers. Now they have a stake
in their budget and are reducing spending. Colorado politicians can
only
increase taxes and spending proportionally as income and population
grow. Our incomes and populations are declining but City Hall wants to
spend 5% more and keep the rest. Thanks Supervisors.

Proposition G says it provides "a cushion to City services" during
downturns. But where's the cushion for San Francisco's taxpayers?
Nowhere!

Supporters say it will reduce borrowing costs. Yet our bond rating is
in
jeopardy because City Hall couldn't contain itself. Now they say they
want fiscal responsibility. Do I hear laughter?

Proposition G is nothing more than an authorization to increase taxes
and spending no matter how the Supervisors are trying to make it look.
Do you believe they've found fiscal religion? I don't think so. Tell
them that you will not be fooled by fake reform. Demand real
accountability and good government from City Hall. Send G back to the
drawing board. Vote for a fair deal for San Francisco tax payers. We
want less spending and our money back. Vote NO on G.
