Prop A Bond Measure Argument from Jawj

This is nicely written too! The only part I don't understand is "'elf and safety". I like the points about keeping existing taxes high even if it doesn't raise them, and how Zuckerberg's donation is already funding the bulk of the SF General renovation.

Hi All. Sorry forthe late update on the lottery. As wasplanned, we submitted A ($350 million bond for "public safety"), B (set-aside forthe parks), C (inclusionary “affordable” housing), and AA (regional parcel tax “forthe Bay,” which is really for the bureaucrats) today at the Department ofElections without much ado. It was onthe quiet side by the time I got there, all our word counts came underthe Word counts (didn’t need to delete any words), and the folks down theretold me that not many arguments had been submitted for the lottery. Terence Faulkner had, as usual, been by withhis ballot measure arguments against everything, but not much competition forus for the lottery. I went to work and expected to hear that we had won atleast one ballot measure, but as it got later in the afternoon, my enthusiasmturned into the ballot measure blues since it appeared that we won not one singleballot argument. Though I’m not big onconspiracy theories, I began to imagine all sorts of reasons why Lady Luckabandoned us this time again. I camehome late in a total lottery funk and put on the computer to check the Dept. ofElections website and expected to see Faulkner’s name as the official opponentfor most, if not all, of the ballot measures. To my utter shock, there we were as the official opponent of A, B, andAA! (Faulkner got C and D and no one submittedagainst E, the sick leave measure.) Icannot imagine why no one called me or emailed me from the Dept. of Elections, since I clearly gave all my contact information from work, not home. I will call them in the morning to see whathappened and where the proponent arguments are since the rebuttals are due onMonday morning. Thanks to Starchild andJawj for writing and rewriting—Lady Luck was with us this time! So, at this point, I’m quite satisfied with the results, and there’s no need to spend tons of money on paid arguments. Our viewpoint is represented in 3 out of the6 ballot measures and will be seen by several hundred thousand voters, so that’sa pretty good deal. In addition, we can nowexpect to be invited to quite a few forums and groups to argue the Libertarianviewpoint. Now we just need to know who’s working on which rebuttal,so that it’s not all left for Sunday night/Monday morning. I will take the leftovers. The word limit is 250 for rebuttals, but noneed to be frustrated if you’re a word or two over, because all the word countstoday came in several words lower than the Word word count, so they must countthem differently at the Dept. of Elections (it’s probably the name SanFrancisco, which they only count as one word, I believe.) I will get the proponent arguments postedtomorrow so folks can start rebutting their statist arguments. By the way, Quentin Kopp was interested in signing onwith our AA argument, but we couldn’t hook up this morning due to the timeconstraint, so I will invite him to sign on with our rebuttals, if he wants to(I’m 98% sure he will on AA), and if we can get them written in a timelymanner. He is still highly respected bythe older folks in this city, so his alliance won’t hurt our credibility. Willadvise as things develop with him. Thanks!Aubrey
