Civil Liberties Groups Say Proposed SFPD Body Cam Policy Is Flawed

The San Francisco Police Commission will be meeting at 5:30pm today in City Hall, room 400.

On the agenda is “Discussion and action to approve the Body Worn Camera Draft Policy” (http://sf-police.org/index.aspx?page=4976). This is a policy written to govern use of body-worn cameras by members of the San Francisco Police Department, about which serious issues have been raised at Commission hearings over the past few months.

Civil liberties advocates including representatives of the SF Public Defenders Office, the American Civil Liberties Union, the Libertarian Party, the Electronic Frontier Foundation, the Bay Area Civil Liberties Coalition, and others have expressed concerns over aspects of the draft policy as currently written.

Members of some of these organizations will hold a press conference outside City Hall a half hour before the Commission meets, in order to share some of their concerns with journalists and members of the public.
